G7, G8, bodies and chassis: choosing a coach for your trip

You ask for a comfortable coach and receive a quote: “Marcopolo G8, Scania chassis, DD, semi-leito”. It sounds detailed, but your questions may be simpler: can we sleep? Is there a toilet? Will everyone’s luggage fit? Let’s translate those names into the questions that help you hire the right coach for your trip.

Start by decoding the quote

If an operator offers a “Marcopolo Paradiso G8, Scania, DD, semi-leito”, several pieces of information are being combined. Marcopolo identifies the bodybuilder; Paradiso is the model family; G8 is the design generation. Scania may identify the chassis manufacturer. DD describes a double-deck passenger layout, while semi-leito is the advertised seating category used in Brazil. You still need to know how this particular coach is fitted out.

The chassis is the mechanical base, including the engine, transmission, axles and suspension. The body provides the passenger areas, windows, doors and luggage holds. A different badge on the steering wheel can therefore be entirely correct. For example, the Busscar Vissta Buss 365 catalogue lists combinations with Mercedes-Benz, Scania and Volvo chassis.

Name on the quoteWhat it tells youWhat to ask next
Marcopolo, Busscar, Comil or MascarelloWho built the bodyWhat is the full model name?
G7 or G8The Marcopolo body generationWhat year is this coach, and what equipment does it have?
Mercedes-Benz, Scania or VolvoWho made the mechanical baseWhich chassis and axle configuration?
DD, LD or HDAn indication of the architectureWhere are the saloon, cab, access points and luggage holds?
Executivo, semi-leito or leitoThe accommodation being offeredWhich seats, spacing and deck allocation?

You do not need a mechanics course to hire a coach. You need to connect those names to what your group will actually use. The guide to DD, LD and HD coaches is a useful next step for understanding the different structures.

G7 or G8: what does it mean for your trip?

G7 and G8 are Marcopolo generations, not comfort categories. A new name does not turn a seat into a sleeper. Rest depends on the seat, recline, available space, supports and conditions inside the coach you actually hire.

The official timeline dates G6 to 2000, G7 to 2009 and G8 to 2021. These are launch dates for the generations. At the G8 launch, Marcopolo said the New G7 would remain in production at that time. The generation helps identify the design; the vehicle’s build year still needs a separate check.

Models within a generation also have their own launch schedules. The G8 1600 LD was presented in January 2022, while still undergoing homologation, with its introduction planned for the second quarter. In August 2026, Marcopolo presented the G8 TEC as an evolution of Generation 8. Features announced for that update do not appear retrospectively in earlier G8s.

If you have one quote for a G7 and another for a G8, ask for recent photos, a seat plan, seat specifications and the vehicle’s identity. The comparison becomes useful when both quotes cover the same trip. Condition and working equipment deserve attention whichever generation is offered.

Marcopolo, Busscar and Comil: compare the actual offer

Brand names help you find the right documentation. Your hire decision depends on the configuration available for your dates. Similar-looking bodies can contain quite different interiors, while coaches from different brands may meet the same group’s needs.

ManufacturerDocumented familiesHow this helps with hiring
MarcopoloViaggio and Paradiso, including G7 and G8Ask for the model, generation, year and interior specification.
BusscarVissta Buss and Panorâmico, including NB1Check the version, decks and installed options.
ComilCampione Invictus HD and DDCompare luggage space, saloon access and the seating offered.
MascarelloRoma R6Confirm the length, chassis and seat option.
VolareFly 9 Executivo, among its touring minibusesCheck seating and luggage provision for the available configuration.

One common mix-up is easy to settle: Invictus is a Comil line; Vissta Buss and Panorâmico are Busscar names. Numbers such as 1050, 1200 and 1800 belong to commercial model names. Read the specification sheet for dimensions and capacity rather than treating a model number as a universal measurement.

A catalogue’s “up to” passenger capacity also needs context. For a hire, you need the capacity of the vehicle being supplied, with its actual furniture and seats. A real coach seat plan helps you check that arrangement.

Fridge, air conditioning, screens and USB: what will you use?

Picture a day trip in hot weather and an overnight winter journey into the mountains. Both groups will ask about air conditioning; the second also needs to discuss heating. The Vissta Buss 365 NB1 catalogue lists cooling-only or heating/cooling alternatives, along with saloon heating, a refrigerator, water dispenser and toilet among its options. The model offers those choices; the quote should identify the installed equipment.

ItemWhy it mattersWhat to ask
Climate controlCooling and heating serve different parts of a trip.Which areas are served? Is heating available?
Refrigerator, coffee maker and water dispenserKeeping drinks chilled, making coffee and dispensing water are different jobs.Where are they, who can use them and what service is included?
TVs and monitorsA screen may show video or only journey information. Will there be programming and sound? Which seats have a view?
USB and plug socketsYour charger needs to match the connection provided.USB-A or USB-C? Are plug sockets fitted, at what voltage and available power?
Seats and reclineA seat must work with the space and supports in that saloon.Which seat model, recline range and legroom?

Specific deliveries show the differences. According to Marcopolo, the G8 DD delivered to Marcelo Turismo in November 2025 has 64 semi-leito seats, USB-A and USB-C, a water dispenser, coffee maker, refrigerator, DVD and monitors. The release does not locate those appliances or include water and coffee in any trip price.

The 40-seat G8 DD Leito Plus batch announced for Garcia in 2023, meanwhile, has 110 V sockets and an upper-deck toilet. These are details of an identified configuration. USB does not establish the presence of 110/220 V sockets, and DD does not determine which deck contains the toilet.

For the G8 1600 LD, the design presentation described a refrigerator to the driver’s left. Ask whether another is available to your group. “There is a fridge” becomes much more useful once you know where it is and who can use it.

Three situations that make the choice clearer

A smaller group travelling during the day. Start with passenger numbers, access needs and expected luggage. A minibus can be compared with a larger coach if its configuration suits the itinerary. The Fly 9 Executivo vehicles announced for JC in 2026 were configured for up to 31 passengers, with Executiva Super Soft seats, air conditioning and USB-A/C. That is a documented touring minibus, not a guaranteed capacity for every Fly 9.

A tour with a night on board. Focus on the seats, leg supports, route to the toilet and differences between decks. For the 2026 IGAPETUR DD NB1, Busscar specifies Class Leito Turismo upstairs and Leito downstairs. Travelling on the same coach can mean different accommodation. Our guide to executivo, semi-leito and leito seats explains the Brazilian categories.

Several days away with plenty of luggage. Describe the luggage volume and local excursions before choosing. Seating and baggage capacity have to work together. If anyone has limited mobility, agree on access and seat location when requesting the quote. A 40-hour itinerary also requires planning for stops and drivers; the body generation cannot settle the crew schedule.

Ask for a quote you can compare

Instead of starting only with “How much is a G8?”, describe the trip: passenger numbers, dates, pickup points, destination, timings, overnight stays, excursions and luggage. Add your essentials, such as a toilet, heating, a particular seating category or suitable access for someone in the group. This gives the operator enough information to suggest a sensible configuration.

Then ask for the coach’s identity, recent photos, seat plan, capacity by category and included equipment. One useful question is: “If the coach is replaced, which features will be retained?” That gives “or similar” a meaning both sides can check. To examine the figures, read what makes up a charter price and try the charter quote calculator with your own operating assumptions.

For fleet operators, OnWay Fleet, the fleet module, brings together vehicles, seat layouts, drivers, documents, maintenance and availability. For group organisers, OnWay Expeditions, the trips module, organises trips, passengers, bookings, seats, documents and finances. The configuration confirmed by the operator is the starting point for recording and explaining the service.

The platform is evolving. Talk to OnWay on WhatsApp to explore the modules, explain how you work and learn which features are available for your operation. This contact is about software for managing trips and fleets.

Frequently asked questions

Are G7 and G8 coach brands?

They are generations of Marcopolo bodies. To identify the vehicle, also obtain the model, year, chassis and interior configuration.

Is every G8 a sleeper coach?

G8 identifies the generation, not the seat. Ask for the advertised category, seat model and actual seat plan, including differences between decks.

Is Invictus made by Busscar or Comil?

Invictus is a Comil line. Vissta Buss and Panorâmico are names used by Busscar.

Why is the body badge different from the steering-wheel badge?

The body and chassis can come from different manufacturers. The steering wheel commonly identifies the mechanical base; the complete combination describes the coach.

Does USB mean a coach also has 110 or 220 V sockets?

USB does not establish the presence of plug sockets. Confirm the connectors, voltage, available power and locations on the coach being supplied.

Do a fridge and coffee maker mean water and coffee are included?

Equipment and service must be agreed separately. Ask where the appliances are, who can use them and which drinks or supplies are included in the quote.
